THE PEACE ACTION WEST CAMPAIGN ROOM

The Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World is a new consortium of more than 100 organizations promoting practical steps today to free the world from nuclear weapons tomorrow. Here's where you can get involved.

Peace Action West is one of six founding members of this campaign, along with the Alliance for Nuclear Accountability, Arms Control Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility, The Peace and Security Initiative, and The Union of Concerned Scientists.

Citizens for Diplomacy with Iran is a movement of people who have pledged to be Citizen Diplomats, and actively support President Obama in seeking direct diplomacy with Iran, and giving talks the time they will need to succeed. President Obama is already under immense pressure to respond aggressively to Iran, and during his campaign he took considerable heat from Iran hawks for his promise to meet with Iranian leaders. Afghanistan Witness is a campaign to create a debate on our approach in Afghanistan even when the mainstream media fails to, and to push for a non-military approach that is more likely to make Americans and Afghans safer. The military approach hasn't worked, and we desperately need a debate on Afghanistan, as well as regional diplomacy, civilian aid, and support for the Afghan people in determining their fate. Peace Action West is partnering with Brave New Foundation on Afghanistan Witness and Rethink Afghanistan.

The military withdrawal from Iraq has begun, but our vigilance remains critical Peace Action West and other groups around the world have worked tirelessly since 2002 to mobilize the vast majority of the American public that opposed the invasion and continued occupation of Iraq. After years of phone calls, letters, protesting, turning out voters, meeting with members of Congress, bird-dogging candidates and other pressure, the US has now signed a written agreement to remove all US troops from Iraq by the end of 2011. We steadily built momentum in the public and Congress, and Peace Action West supporters made a crucial contribution toward the call for removing our troops from a tragic war that never should have started.
