We bring the issues to the public Every
year we make personal contact with over 170,000 people and millions
more through the media, offering a chance to get informed on our issues
and to begin taking action for a safer world. Whether
it's activating our membership base via email, phone, or by knocking on
their front door, Peace Action West organizers are bringing the peace
movement to ever new levels of participation and effectiveness.
We fight for laws based on peace and justice When Peace Action West members send a message,
policy makers listen. In the past year, we've generated over 50,000
letters, emails, and phone calls to members of Congress on important
bills and policy decisions.
We effectively use the internet With
a growing list of about 35,000 email activists, we are able to
immediately respond to changing legislation on peace and disarmament
issues. Our Action Alert Network can put broad-based, bill-specific
pressure on Congress right as a decision is being made. We also empower
our members to do their own direct-lobbying, providing web-based tools
to coordinate visits with members of Congress.
We rely on teamwork Peace Action West has done extensive alliance building to create a network
of hundreds of organizations who are united in their efforts to promote
an American foreign policy that's based on American values. These
groups include women's groups, democratic clubs, the latino community,
and labor. Together we have conducted massive education and voter
registration campaigns, reaching as many as 87,000 people in a single
day.
We frame the debate We
stage mass media campaigns that challenge policies while carrying a
constructive message of our vision for a better future. These ads also
mobilize grassroots lobbying action on specific legislation, reaching
millions of people in states across the country, and the crucial
political market of Washington DC.
We tally the votes Every
year, we grade the voting record of our members of Congress based on
key votes related to nuclear weapons, arms sales, and international
cooperation. These grades are released as report cards which we use to
educate voters and to compel their members of Congress to improve or
keep up the good work, whatever the case may be.
We are grassroots Peace Action West is 98% funded by individual donors--people just like you. We would also like to thank the Ploughshares Fund for their years of support.
