Become an Afghanistan Witness

As the human and financial costs of the war skyrocket with little progress to show for it, Americans are turning against the war.

The loss of life on all sides of the war is tragic and needless. Many people in power already know there is no military answer to Afghanistan's problems. And with cities and states going bankrupt -- laying off workers, shuttering schools and curbing basic services like garbage collection -- it's ludicrous for America to be going deeper into debt to pay for a war that isn't making us safer.

That's why we're taking full advantage of an opportunity to create real change in our foreign policy, in the form of an American public tired of war, and a Congress and president elected on a promise of reshaping America's role in the world. We're pushing to end this war and get Afghanistan right.

And we're already making progress. More and more members of Congress are speaking out against the war, but most still lack the political will to go beyond words to action. That's where we come in -- with your help.

If we put a fraction of the billions we spend on blunt military force into proven programs that ease the poverty and instability that terrorists thrive on, and strengthen intelligence work and regional cooperation, we would go much further in making Afghans and ourselves safer. And we'd have a lot more money left over to take care of needs at home, like education, health care and the environment.

But first we have to overcome the partisan politics and overheated rhetoric that drown out smarter alternatives to war. When you make sure your voice counts, you help us build the political will needed to break through that deadlock.

With your help, we can leave an indelible mark on America's approach to solving global problems. Please join us.
